Is there seaweed in destin now
I manage hotels at the beach in Galveston, and they same problem exists here. This is a phenomena affecting the entire Gulf coast from Florida to Cancun, Mexico. The entire Gulf gets Sargassum seaweed starting usually in late February or march till sometimes as late as August. It makes an approximately 5000 mile trek from Africa every single year.Headed to Destin for the first time this year the last week of June. Planned our trip there specifically because we had such a bad seaweed problem at Panama City last year. Lots of friends have said Destin is typically free of seaweed but now after reading all this I am really worried. Worried enough to change our beach plans.

We went to FWB/ Destin in May and had a great time except for the disappointing seaweed. One of the allures of the area is afterall the emerald waters. After watching the posts all summer and talking to other friends that frequent Destin it seems the seaweed is much more common then it used to be.
